A reminder of the good old, bad old days and mostly downtown – East Village and Lower East Side. My impressions and observations from 1981-84.
I could have walked the same streets and taken very different pictures of my surroundings, but I left that for others. I certainly wasn’t setting out to document change but have always been drawn to and kept my eyes open to a kind of visual poetry – more interested in recording my observation over just taking a picture. I loved being part of this vibrant, exciting, artistic time in a real living neighborhood in what is now New York’s history.
